Ambassador Suleiman Dauda Umar was born on 3rd December, 1963 in the then Zaria Native Authority. He grew up in Zaria city and attended Kaura Local Education Authority, Primary School from 1969 to 1975. From September 1975 to 1980 Ambassador Suleiman Dauda Umar was at the Sardauna Memorial College, Kawo, Kaduna for his WASC, the only college with that name in the whole of Nigeria. He attended Katsina College of Arts and Science (KCAST) from October 1980 to June 1982 for his A level.
His Excellency, Ambassador Suleiman Dauda Umar went to the University of Jos in the then Plateau State where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws LL.B. (Hons) Degree in 1985. He also attended the Nigeria Law School for his Barrister at Law qualification and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986. He did his NYSC in the then Bendel State from 1986 to 1987.
Ambassador S D Umar attended the Nigerian Foreign Service Academy, Lagos from 1993 to 1994 where he obtained his Post Graduate Certificate in Diplomacy. He also obtained his Master of Arts Degree in International Politics from the European Centre for International Research and Strategy – Brussels School of Diplomacy, Brussels, Belgium from 2014 – 2015. In 2016 he obtained Advanced Certificate in Strategic Negotiation from CERIS.
Ambassador S D Umar started his career with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993. He has served in different departments in the Ministry. He also served in the Presidency, Office of the Vice President from 2012 to March, 2014.
Ambassador S D Umar also served in a number of countries both as an officer and as Head of Mission. He served as Consul General of Nigeria, Frankfurt – Germany from August 2018 until his nomination and posting to Vienna, Austria with Concurrent accreditation to Slovakia as Ambassador and also Permanent Representative to United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Vienna.
His Excellency, Ambassador Suleiman Umar has been honoured with Doctor of International Relations and Diplomacy, Honoris Causa, a lifetime achievement award by the Kaduna State University during its combined 4th convocation, ceremony on 26th September, 2021.
His Excellency Ambassador Suleiman Dauda Umar is married with Children.
